Stephen Thomas First Responders Scholarship (Offered by Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union)

This scholarship is named after former Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union Board Member Stephen Thomas. Mr. Thomas served on the MSGCU Board for 21 years and was an MSGCU member for more than three (3) decades. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, a retired Sergeant of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department, and retired as the Administrator of the Special Investigation Unit for Michigan Basic Property Insurance Association. “People Helping People” is the philosophy that Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) embraces. As a community credit union, MSGCU believes strongly in supporting first responders in our communities. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to Macomb Community College students enrolled in the Police and Fire Academies at Macomb Community College.

  • must be enrolled in the Fire Training or Police Academy
  • must be a pre-service student
  • half-time enrollment (6 credit hours or more) each semester of award
  • minimum GPA 2.0 or higher
  • provide a 250 word essay about your career goals, community service and how your educational plan helps prepare you for this career choice
  • selection will be made by the Managers of the Fire and Police Academies
