Chief Gerald B. Alward Scholarship for the Fire Academy

This scholarship was established in honor of Fire Chief, Gerald B. Alward, for his 50 years of service to the Washington Township Fire Department, the Macomb County community, Macomb Community College, and the state of Michigan. Chief Alward was instrumental in the development of the fire program at Macomb Community College. His dedication to public safety and compassion to the community he served, and those who served with him, set the bar for future fire fighters and community leaders. This scholarship will continue Chief Alward’s legacy by helping train future fire fighters to serve and protect within their communities.

  • resident of Macomb county
  • enrolled full-time or part-time in the Fire Academy
  • minimum GPA 3.0 each semester of award
  • award is for tuition, fees, and other educational expenses
  • a 250-word biography describing applicant’s educational and career goals
