Captain Gary D. Micu Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Captain Gary Micu, who served with the Farmington Hills Fire Department from 1979 to 1987 and the City of Warren Fire Department from 1988 to 2007, retiring after 27 years of dedicated service. In addition to his role as a firefighter, he was also a lead instructor at the Macomb Community College Fire Academy for 18 years. This Scholarship is intended for students pursuing a Fire Fighting I & II certification through the Macomb Community College Fire Academy.

  • scholarship will be merit based, students sponsored by a municipality or private fire company do not qualify
  • academic score of 85% or greater
  • essay of 500-700 words describing why pursuing a firefighter career is important. The essay should include a background history of schooling (grades 10-12, college, vocational), military service (to include schools),
    employment, community service, scouting, athletics, and any leadership positions and awards
  • awards to be used for tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses
  • must be U.S. citizen
